Taxpayers can apply for the Alberta film and television tax credit—a refundable provincial tax credit with respect to eligible Alberta production and labour costs.
The film tax credit was effective 28 January 2020, and was included in Alberta's 2019 budget bill that received Royal Assent in late 2019.
The Alberta film and television tax credit is available to certain corporations that produce eligible screen-based productions in the province. Applicants may apply for either a 22% or 30% tax credit rate, up to a maximum of $10 million* per eligible production. To qualify for the 30% tax credit, productions must meet certain Alberta-based requirements.
