R&D Credits – The Updated IRS LB&I ASC 730 R&D Directive and What it Means to You

Webcast overview

The IRS Large Business & International (“LB&I”) group just issued revised guidance for LB&I examiners when reviewing the amounts claimed for the section 41 R&D tax credit.  The September 10, 2020 (released to the public on September 15) guidance (and related FAQs) to auditors modifies a Directive issued in September of 2017.

KPMG professionals will discuss a variety of topics including:

  • What changes did the updated Directive make?
  • Why did the IRS update the Directive?
  • What have been some recent taxpayer experiences regarding application of the original Directive?
  • What are the practical impacts of the Directive updates?
  • How does this impact my FIN 48 reserves for past / future R&D credits?
